Queen released their eponymous debut record in 1973, but they didnвЂ™t pick up any major attention until their eponymous sequel was released the following year, scoring a top ten single with вЂSeven Seas of RhyeвЂ™. Brian May and Roger Taylor looked to find new bandmates, and they did so in the form of Farokh Bulsara, or Freddie Mercury as heвЂ™d become, and Deacon JohnвЂ¦or John DeaconвЂ¦or Deacon John, yeah, thatвЂ™s more interesting. Still, they are pretty impressive songwriters when they wanted to be, and they wanted to be for the majority of the вЂ70s, so weвЂ™ve got a lot to enjoy in this article.ДЄ little backstory? Well Queen formed in the fallout of previous band вЂSmileвЂ™, who were fronted by Tim Staffell, and as long as IвЂ™m giving them a shoutout IвЂ™ll mention their song вЂPolar BearвЂ™ which is a pretty big favourite of mine.

Sure, they had their nuances and their trademarks, but excluding Bohemian Rhapsody, Queen werenвЂ™t really doing anything new at a time when there was still a lot waiting to be explored in rock music. The reason why they arenвЂ™t given the due their fans may feel is owed is simply because they were hardly innovative.

But IвЂ™m here to talk about those albums, from вЂQueenвЂ™ to the ill-fated Paul Rodgers collaboration вЂThe Cosmos RocksвЂ™ вЂ¦urgh, classing that as main canon is a nauseating thing indeed. I know, I know, they donвЂ™t hold the artistic importance that bands like The Beatles and Pink Floyd do, hell, there are a lot of people that talk down about their albums in general, touting Queen simply as a singles band. IвЂ™ve been cooking this one up for almost a year now, this is my Queen retrospective! Getting into Queen was essentially synonymous with me getting into music.
